It has been a heck of a strong week!

I spent most of the week consumed by Catriona Ward’s new novel, Nowhere Burning. I am a Catriona Ward loyalist, and shun all spoilers for her books. I trust Ward, and she has fucking nailed it once again. Nowhere Burning is her best book since Sundial. In fact, the two books feel like spiritual sisters. So many surprises in Nowhere Burning, I loved it.

Appropriately, I stayed up past my bedtime last night to finish Turn off the Light, by Jacquie Walters. A superbly intelligent thriller/horror with excellent use of a dual timeline. The final act of this novel is especially exciting, hence the late night. Walters’ previous novel, Dearest, is a great evil-mom novel. Walters joins the list of authors I will read without question.

I feel like I am never without a new or reissued T. Kingfisher book on the horizon, which is a wonderful feeling. I just finished one of Kingfisher’s earlier works, Nine Goblins, which was beautiful and hilarious. And I’m currently listening to her upcoming release, Wolfworm. Likable female narrator? Check. Eccentric academic-type? Check. Cat? Check.

As I type this, I’m in that very exciting position of picking which novel to read next. If you’re interested, I always have one physical/ebook and one audiobook on the go at the same time. It’s often more than that; I get easily distracted.

I grabbed two very exciting new horror ARCs this weekend, The Minimalist by Kailee Pedersen (she of Sacrificial Animals), and I’ll Watch Your Baby, by Neena Viel, billed as a “haunting reimagining of Linda Taylor, known as the original Welfare Queen”.

And I found out this morning that Daisy Johnson (Everything Under, The Hotel, Sisters) has a new novel coming out this year! It’s called Long Wave and I cannot wait to get my grubby hands on it.

It’s such a wonderful time to be a reader, isn’t it?
